Common Questions

Frequently asked

What does the initial consultation involve?
The initial consultation is an opportunity for us to understand your situation and for you to understand how we can assist. We ask about the nature of the matter, the parties involved, and any time sensitivities. From there, we provide an assessment of the legal landscape and outline the steps we would recommend. There is no obligation to proceed.
How long does an insolvency advisory engagement typically take?
The timeline varies considerably depending on the complexity of the financial position, the number of creditors involved, and the chosen legal mechanism. A voluntary winding up may take several months, while a scheme of arrangement involving negotiations can extend to a year or more. We provide an honest assessment of likely timelines at the outset of each engagement.
Which industries benefit most from the environmental compliance advisory?
The service is particularly relevant for manufacturing, construction, palm oil processing, chemical handling, and resource extraction businesses. Companies undergoing expansion, seeking new operating licences, or responding to regulatory notices from the Department of Environment will also find structured advisory helpful. ESG-conscious businesses preparing sustainability disclosures are an increasingly common client group.
What is covered under the monthly retainer, and what is not?
The retainer provides a defined number of advisory hours per month for consultation on contract queries, employment matters, regulatory questions, and general legal guidance. It does not cover matters requiring court representation, preparation of substantial legal documents, or work exceeding the monthly hour allocation. Such matters are scoped and quoted separately. Unused retainer hours do not carry over.
Are your fees fixed or do they vary by case?
The environmental compliance advisory and general retainer are fixed-price arrangements. Insolvency and restructuring engagements begin at MYR 5,000 for the initial advisory phase, and fees for additional work — such as court applications or prolonged negotiations — are agreed upon separately. We are transparent about cost estimates from the very beginning.
Do you work with clients outside of Kuala Lumpur?
Yes. While our office is in Kuala Lumpur, we work with clients from across Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak. Many consultations and advisory sessions can be conducted remotely. For matters requiring in-person attendance, we will discuss appropriate arrangements.
